Ever since I've got to know about Help-Portrait, I loved the idea.
One of the most gratifying aspects of being a photographer is the look in the face of those you photograph. That look, when they get to see a better version of themselves.
I have been fortunate enough to receive many of these since I ever picked up a camera, and they have kept me going in my journey to find the day when financial independence will marry image-making.
Help-Portrait captures the essence of this, makes that "better selves" available to those that would not be able to afford it otherwise, and makes them feel that there is a reason for them to continue their struggle.
I had the opportunity to be a part of it in Madison, Wisconsin, and believe me, I jumped at it. The original plan was just to help around, be a "runner", the humblest one of the members. I ended up shooting and giving the gift! I left Madison happy, because I was returning to our house in Florida and to our oldest daughter, but also with a bitter taste of leaving behind the great photographers I can call my friends since then.
Now, back in Florida, I could not let pass the opportunity, and I had to start a group here. So far I have met wonderful, motivated people who are just willing to work their behinds off for the cause.
I am fortunate.
